This prevents the hassle of having to redo everything, which ultimately costs you time and money! In Australia, keeping receipts is not only good practice but also a legal obligation for tax, GST, and business record-keeping. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) mandates that businesses retain evidence to support every claim made in their books and on their BAS or tax return. If you can’t provide proof, you generally can’t claim it. You might think that purchases under $75 don’t require a receipt, but what do we buy now under that amount in Australia? Under Australian tax law: For purchases under $75 (including GST), you are not required to hold a full tax invoice to claim GST, but you must still have some form of evidence of the expense. This is an evidence rule, not a 'no receipt' rule.
